NEW DELHI: Meghalaya governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday once again urged the Centre to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee through a law to the protesting farmers. Making a strong case for MSP guarantee the Meghalaya governor said, “If the government (Centre) provides MSP guarantee through a law then it can be resolved (farmers’ agitation against the three farm laws). There is only one thing, so why are you (Centre) not fulfilling it? They (farmers) will not compromise on less than MSP.” This is not the first time that Satya Pal Malik has come out in support of the protesting farmers. In March this year, addressing a gathering in his hometown UP’s Baghpat, the Meghalaya governor had cautioned the Centre against pressuring and insulting farmers to leave their protest sites in the national capital. “Farmers will not leave and if they do, they will not forget it for the next 300 years. Just give legal recognition to MSP and it will be my responsibility to handle the rest,” Malik had then said. Farmers have been protesting nationwide since November 26 last year against the three newly-enacted farm laws. (With inputs from ANI)
