GURDASPUR: Mr. Kuljit Singh, District Marketing Officer, Gurdaspur informed that 240207 metric tonnes of paddy had arrived in Gurdaspur district till October 17, out of which 210341 metric tonnes of paddy had been procured. Pungren procured 78750 MT, Markfed 59553 MT, PUNSUP 41797 MT, Warehouse 28958 MT, FCI 206 MT and Traders 1077 MT.
He appealed to the farmers to bring the crop in the mandis only after drying it so that they do not face any difficulty. The crop should not be harvested at night and early in the morning, as harvesting during this time increases the moisture content and the farmer has to stay in the mandis till the wet crop dries. He said that there were 95 mandis in the district and farmers would not be allowed to enter the mandis without any difficulty.He appealed to the farmers not to burn the crop residues and not to set fire to the pulses to keep the environment clean. About 7 lakh 03 metric tonnes of paddy is expected to arrive in the mandis this year.
