JAMMU: In wake of an increase in counter-terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir and an ongoing search operation in Poonch, Army chief General MM Naravane on Tuesday visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir and reviewed the security situation. Official sources said that General Naravane arrived on a two-day visit to the Jammu region on Monday afternoon. “In the evening, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) left for Rajouri along with officers from the Northern Command in Udhampur and the Jammu-based White Knight Corps,” an Army official said. “The Army Chief visited forward areas of White Knight Corps and undertook a first-hand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control,” he added. It said the CoAS was briefed by commanders on the ground about the present situation and the counter-infiltration operations. Taking to twitter, Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG-PI), Indian Army on its official twitter handle said, “General MM Naravane #COAS visited forward areas of #WhiteKnight Corps & undertook a first-hand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control. “#COAS was briefed by commanders on the ground about the present situation & ongoing counter-infiltration operations.” The twin frontier districts of Poonch and Rajouri have been a hotspot of terror related activities in the recent past. The visit of General Naravane comes in the backdrop of the ongoing gunfight between the Army personnel and terrorists in the Poonch region. Nine Army personnel including two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) have been killed in the ongoing encounter cum search operation which continued for the last nine day. Here it needs to mention that Home Minister Amit shah is also likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir on October 22.
