JALANDHAR: Former union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday said that with former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh indicating he is open for an alliance with the BJP, “the cat is out of the bag, and it is now clear that he was colluding with the BJP since the beginning”. She further claimed that Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi was also colluding with the BJP and had signed away half of Punjab to the Centre after meeting Home minister Amit Shah. “I am glad that now the cat is out of the bag. I have been saying it for the last five years, that he [Amarinder] has been colluding with the BJP. When the foundation stone of the Kartarpur Corridor was laid and there was great joy among Sikhs, he raised the bogey of terrorism at the BJP’s behest,” she said, while addressing a press conference at the residence of fformer MLA and now Jalandhar Cantt SAD candidate Jagbir Brar. “The BJP does not spare opposition CMs be it Mamata Banerjee or others, but the Prime Minister has not said a single word against Amarinder. He was just called ‘ swatantar fauji’ (independent army man). He helped them in passing three black farm laws by remaining silent. It is clear with whom he was colluding,” she said. She held that not only Amarinder but others from the Congress were also colluding with the BJP. “Charanjit has handed over 50% of Punjab to the Centre after meeting Shah,” she said, referring to increase in jurisdiction of BSF in 50 km area inside Punjab border. “We knew that the BJP helped Amarinder and transferred votes. We knew this internally… when I saw the Cabinet and how Amarinder would speak on those decisions. That made it clear. I had understood the situation long ago, but the extent of the collusion I am realizing only now,” said Harsimrat. She added that the Akali Dal’s alliance with the BJP had been for peace, progress and betterment of Punjab as well as for national security. “Our alliance was clean and we did not have any clandestine understanding with any party. Captain, while remaining in the Congress, was betraying his own party and Punjab,” said the former union minister. “Badal senior forged an alliance with the BJP during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s time, but now dictatorship is going on. It is a majority dictatorship. Just see how farm bills were passed. After I resigned, it became a national issue. Till it reached Rajya Sabha, 18 parties opposed it, but the bills were pushed through,” she said, in an unusually strong attack against the BJP. She also claimed that Akali splinter groups, which were working at the BJP’s behest, would also join Amarinder. She also ruled out any possibility of ever aligning with Amarinder, stating that their party could never ally with somebody who had backstabbed Punjab. BJP, centre defaming Sikh community Responding to a question, she accused the BJP and the Centre of defaming the Sikh community. Since the farm laws agitation started, there has been sustained effort to marginalize, target and defame Punjabis and Sikh community, she alleged, adding: “We have a minister who instigated people in Lakhimpur. The Haryana CM and Karnal SDM also did the same thing. The BJP has been shameless enough not to dismiss the minister who has been in-charge of Home and Security. He has been openly instigating and targeting the community.” The pattern matches what Indira Gandhi did against Sikhs in 1980s, she added.
