NEW DELHI: A senior UP Police official probing the Lakhimpur Kheri violence of October 3 has been transferred. The UP government on Friday transferred DIG Upendra Kumar Agarwal, heading the SIT probing the incident to Gonda. However Agarwal will continue to supervise the investigations. The UP Police headquarters termed Agarwal’s transfer a routine exercise. Eight people were killed in violence that erupted in Lakhimpur Kheri during a protest demonstration by farmers against the Centre’s three new farm laws. Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish, accused of ploughing his vehicle into the crowd, has been arrested. DIG Agarwal had on October 9 said Ashish Mishra was arrested for not cooperating in the investigation and making evasive replies to queries. When asked about Agarwal’s transfer, UP additional director general of police (law and order) Prashant Kumar said that he will continue to lead the SIT team investigating the case.
